October 20, 2006, Newsletter Issue #49: GPS Camping Gear

Tip of the Week

If you plan to hike, bike, or boat during your camping vacation, consider making a GPS an essential part of your camping gear. There are hand-held models that can pinpoint your location extremely accurately, and are still reasonably priced.

There are also models for your vehicle that give driving directions anywhere in the country and the world with pinpoint accuracy, too. They can even find the nearest gas station or grocery store when you're on the road.

A GPS isn't just a fun tech toy; it can save your life if you get lost and can't find your way back to camp. Along with a cell phone, consider a GPS as essential items when you pack up your camping gear and head for the open road.
